3 Ways To Make Kratom Tea

Kratom’s benefits come from the various alkaloids and other chemical compounds found within the leaves of the Kratom tree. Mitragyna speciosa, the scientific name for Kratom, is found throughout Southeast Asia. You may be familiar with seeing these leaves in both dried or powdered form when you make an order from your favorite supplier.

There are several different ways to enjoy these benefits, and with the tree itself being a relative of the coffee plant, it makes sense that one common method is to make tea. Let’s look at how to make Kratom tea here alongside some of the advantages of doing so.

What is Kratom Tea?

Kratom tea is made by using the dried leaves of the Kratom tree. After these leaves are dried, they can be pounded into a fine powder or into crushed to create a product that can be easily brewed into tea. You can make Kratom tea in different ways using power or crushed leaves, and Kratom tea bags are also an option.

Benefits of Brewing Kratom Tea

Brewing Kratom tea is easy, making it a popular way to take advantage of its benefits. This tea can help with pain relief, anxiety, recovery from addiction and have a sedative effect. It can also boost energy, improve mental clarity, and help you focus.

These benefits are due to the unique properties found within Kratom leaves. Different alkaloids, including mitragynine, paynantheine, and 7-hydroxymitragynine, are abundant within these leaves and are responsible for the effects you can experience when drinking Kratom tea. Higher doses of Kratom, in any form, will help with pain relief and have a calming effect while lower doses can provide energy and focus.

How to Make Kratom Tea

You can make Kratom tea in a variety of ways. Here are some popular ways to delicious Kratom brew at home.

Brew Kratom Tea with Powder or Crushed Leaves

A common way to make Kratom tea is by brewing up boiling water with Kratom powder or crushed Kratom leaves. This is similar to making other types of herbal tea and can be as easy as heating water, mixing in your preferred type of Kratom, and letting the brew steep until it reaches your desired level of potency.

When using Kratom powder or crushed leaves to make tea, start by boiling water and then letting it cool down so that it’s not quite as hot. This is again similar to brewing other types of tea where you don’t want the water to be quite boiling.

Place your Kratom powder or leaves in a brewing container and then pour the hot water over it. Give it a stir and let it steep for however long you’d like. At least 5-10 minutes minimum but longer is ok if you want a stronger tea. The powder or leaves will settle on the bottom of the container while it’s brewing.

When it’s ready, you can either pour it over a strainer to separate the tea from the brewed plant matter or pour it slowly into a drinking cup to keep the sediment on the bottom.

Kratom has a natural flavor that can be very bitter. You can make Kratom tea using other ingredients to improve this flavor and make it easier and more enjoyable to drink. Adding a sweetener such as honey or sugar can help with this. Creating a more complex brew with other types of your favorite tea or other herbs and spices is another way to help cut the bitter flavor.

Brew with Kratom Tea Bags

Another easy way to make Kratom tea is to use Kratom tea bags. While these tea bags are not always as readily available as powder or crushed leaves, they can provide a straightforward way to make tea if you can find them.

All you need to do is throw in a tea bag or two into a cup or pot of hot water. Again, make sure that the water isn’t quite boiling. Let the Kratom tea steep for at least 5-10 minutes and then enjoy. Mixing in a sweetener is also recommended to help with flavor when using Kratom tea bags.

Brew Kratom Sun Tea

Brewing Kratom sun tea is another option you can use. This method takes a lot longer than using hot water, but it still results in an excellent Kratom beverage that will deliver the many benefits. Sun tea extracts the alkaloids from Kratom using water that is only slightly heated from the sun, which is still highly effective, but it takes some time.

You’ll need a decent-sized glass vessel, preferably one with a lid,  of some sort to make Kratom sun tea. A gallon jug is a great size for this. If you have an iced-tea jug around the kitchen, that’s perfect for making sun tea.

Follow these steps for a great batch of Kratom sun tea:

  • Fill up the container with either tap or filtered water.
  • Add in crushed Kratom leaves or tea bags (Kratom powder is not recommended for sun tea). Use enough Kratom to match the amount of water. A gallon is a large batch of tea.
  • Put the lid on the container securely and then give it a gentle shake.
  • Place the jug or container in a sunny location and let it brew for at least several hours. 2-5 hours should leave you with a good brew.
  • Pour into a cup and enjoy!

Just as with the other methods of making Kratom tea, sun tea will be bitter. It might not be as bitter as brewing with hot water, but you can still add sweetener or put in a splash of orange juice to make it more enjoyable.

Tips for Making Kratom Tea

Making Kratom tea with any of the methods described here is quick and easy. But there are a few things to remember to help you make a better batch.

  • Kratom tea will last in the refrigerator for about five days. Be sure to drink it up before it goes bad.
  • Don’t use boiling water to brew the tea. Boiling water may affect the alkaloids, so let the water cool a bit before brewing.
  • Using a sweetener can help improve upon the bitter taste of Kratom tea. You can also follow a recipe and brew it with other herbs and teas for better flavor.
